Twenty-three years of advanced shoulder and elbow surgery. Fellowship-trained in Heidelberg (Habermeyer) and Hannover. Professor of Orthopaedics at the University of Concepción, Chile. Remote second opinions and surgery for patients from the United States, Canada, Australia and beyond.
Have you been told you need shoulder or elbow surgery, or are you on a long waiting list? I review your MRI, X-rays and reports, and we talk by video call. You receive a written report you can share with your own doctor.
A second opinion is a written medical opinion based on your records. It does not replace the care of your treating physician.
Chile is 1 to 4 hours ahead of North American time zones and about 13 to 14 hours behind eastern Australia, so we can usually find a convenient time.
Patients from the United States, Canada and Australia have travelled to Concepción to have surgery with me. Surgery is performed at Clínica Andes Salud Concepción.
We start with a remote second opinion. If surgery is indicated, you travel with the plan and the date already set, and with a clear quote for the surgeon's fee, the hospital stay and the implants.
Post-operative follow-up continues by video call, with a written rehabilitation plan your local physiotherapist can follow.
Shoulder replacement infection rate below 0.1%. Cumulative figures to 2026.
I trained in medicine at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Concepción. I completed my fellowship in advanced shoulder and elbow surgery at the ATOS Klinik in Heidelberg, Germany (2010–2011), with Professors Peter Habermeyer, Markus Loew, Sven Lichtenberg and Petra Magosch.
Before that, I completed a fellowship in advanced trauma management at Hannover Medical School (2004) with Prof. Christian Krettek, and three-month advanced placements at the universities of Rostock and Düsseldorf, the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute in Bologna, the Botnar Institute in Oxford and Imperial College London. In 2016–2017 I was a visiting scholar at the Fondren Orthopaedic Group, Houston Methodist.
I founded and led the Shoulder and Elbow Unit at the Concepción Trauma Hospital for ten years, served as team physician for a professional football club for a decade, and am Professor of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at the University of Concepción.
